This course is not for those who think that learning to be a grant writer is easy, for it isn't. The course is thoughtful as well as practical and requires a commitment to DO SOMETHING after every one of the eight lesson. I've taken grant writing courses before that took tactical approach to the grant making process. They concentrated on how to write an application or how to fill out forms. They did not tackle the planning aspects necessary to prepare an organization for conceiving a proposal, for seeking out appropriate grant funders, for submitting a grantable application, or for following up if the proposal us successful in getting funded. To the serious student of mission-centered grant writing (the only consistently successful grant writing ), the course is worth every penny of the tuition price.

Saying "Thank You" just doesn't say enough. I am new to grant writing. Over the last 12 months, I have taken a variety of online courses to increase my skills and knowledge. I wish this course had been my first course. What a difference it would have made for me! I loved this course. I printed out every session and put them in a 3-ring notebook. As a quick reference guide, I have also created a separate notebook that contains the various worksheets, charts, and samples. (I learn best from examples.) Maryn Boess is a natural teacher. She knows her subject in depth. With useful frameworks, formula, and fill-in-the-blank worksheets, Maryn simplifies complex issues surrounding grant writing. For example, she taught frameworks/concepts such as SMART?, Theater of the Mind, 5W's, 3D view. Maryn also offers me a priceless seat at the table of funders and allows me to participate with them in the decision-making process for requests for funding. She calls this whole opaque and subjective process the "Grantmaker's Black Box"---the series of factors that are out of the grantseeker's control after hitting the "submit button." This course has changed how I practice and think about grant writing. It has increased my confidence to write grants. With the method taught here, I can double or even triple the number of A+ proposals I can submit for my organization to increase grant dollars to support our programs. All that it takes is to use Maryn's tools, worksheets, and frameworks to create a detailed Master Grant Proposal as a well. Then from this well, I can draw words, sentences, paragraphs to create a letter of interest and a full proposal tailored to a specific funder. As simple as that. Maryn delivers on her promise that this course was not the same as any other how-to-write-grants training. In the capitalism system, many service and training providers -- unlike Maryn Boess -- make bold and ambitious promises that they do not live up to nor keep. I have recommended this course to two persons, and I will continue to recommend it to more people who want to improve their skills in planning projects, forming partnerships, and writing an A+ Grant Proposal that makes it easier for funders to say yes and harder to say no. I entered your virtual classroom burning with thirst to improve my grant writing knowledge and skills.
