Did you know there are over 120,000 grantmaking organizations in the U.S. alone? That’s good news!

The bad news is, fewer than 1/10th of 1% of them have any interest at all in seeing a proposal from your organization.

Don’t take it personally - there’s more good news:

That 1/10th of 1% still leaves plenty of grantmakers who would be happy to consider supporting your organization’s work with a grant award.

You can think of that 1/10th of 1% as your “sweet spot” funders … and there’s more good news: You don’t have to knock on 120,000 doors to find them. That’s what thoughtful funder research is for: To help us cut through all the “no thank you’s” and zero in quickly and efficiently on that much smaller group in your organization’s “sweet spot” who are most likely to give your proposal an enthusiastic thumbs-up.

In this lively, fast-paced session, we’ll look at how you can make sure you get the very most from the time you invest in your grants research!

Your big take-aways:

  • Are you thinking “mission match”? That’s a great start! – But did you know some of your best prospective grantmaking partners may have no specific interest at all in your organization’s mission?

  • Five ways – beyond mission match – to frame the work you’re proposing to do that will connect you with five completely different groups of potential funders!

  • Using two-fers and three-fers (and maybe even four-fers) to really power up your connection with “sweet-spot” funders

  • A real-life scenario: How our unconventional simple tweaks helped a struggling nonprofit turn up 12 new-to-them “sweet-spot” funders resulting in over $100,000 in grant awards!

I've been a grant pro for years and took this course primarily to see if there were any new tricks this old dog could learn. Boy, am I glad I did ... Maryn goes way, way beyond the usual on-the-ground tactics and showed me a whole new way of thinking about grants research - from what she calls a 3-D perspective. I'm excited to share what I learned with my team and SO excited to go back to my "old" grants tools and start using them in a whole new way. THANKS, GrantsMagic U!!

FIVE STARS. So impressed. I took the strategy Maryn teaches here for expanding and then narrowing the search by 'stacking' search terms. Worth every penny a thousand times over.

Maryn, you did it again! I have been writing grants for years and with great success -but I wrote for school districts that were eligible for federal and state money. Most of these have been Title grants earmarked for under-performing school districts and for schools that met NCLB guidelines. I didn't have to seek and find grantfunders - I just had to apply and write applications strong enough to get the most money and to meet the school district's needs. Now that I am working for non-profits that are not schools or whose grant projects are not related to secondary education, I've found myself almost completely clueless about how to do grants research to find suitable funders. This course has met every expectation I had for meaningful information and instruction that I can use right now - and I have already utilized valuable tools you provided in the Q & A that introduced this course. Thank you again and again for always delivering high quality instruction with clarity.
