Grants Research - with a Twist!

Going Beyond Mission-Match ... to Connect with More "Sweet-Spot" Funders

Did you know there are over 120,000 grantmaking organizations in the U.S. alone? That’s good news!

The bad news is, fewer than 1/10th of 1% of them have any interest at all in seeing a proposal from your organization.

Don’t take it personally - there’s more good news:That 1/10th of 1% still leaves plenty of grantmakers who would be happy to consider supporting your organization’s work with a grant award.

You can think of that 1/10th of 1% as your “sweet spot” funders … and there’s more good news: You don’t have to knock on 120,000 doors to find them. That’s what thoughtful funder research is for: To help us cut through all the “no thank you’s” and zero in quickly and efficiently on that much smaller group in your organization’s “sweet spot” who are most likely to give your proposal an enthusiastic thumbs-up.

In this lively, fast-paced session, we’ll look at how you can make sure you get the very most from the time you invest in your grants research.

  • Are you thinking “mission match”? That’s a great start! – But did you know some of your best prospective grantmaking partners may have no specific interest at all in your organization’s mission?

  • Five ways – beyond mission match – to frame the work you’re proposing to do that will connect you with five completely different groups of potential funders

  • Using two-fers and three-fers (and maybe even four-fers) to really power up your connection with “sweet-spot” funders

  • A real-life scenario: How our unconventional simple tweaks helped a struggling nonprofit turn up 12 new-to-them “sweet-spot” funders resulting in over $100,000 in grant awards

For Experienced Grants Writers Seeking an Edge

by Elaine Penn
Maryn, you did it again! I have been writing grants for years and with great success -but I wrote for school districts that were eligible for federal and state money. Most of these have been Title grants earmarked for under-performing school districts and for schools that met NCLB guidelines. I didn't have to seek and find grantfunders - I just had to apply and write applications strong enough to get the most money and to meet the school district's needs. Now that I am working for non-profits that are not schools or whose grant projects are not related to secondary education, I've found myself almost completely clueless about how to do grants research to find suitable funders. This course has met every expectation I had for meaningful information and instruction that I can use right now - and I have already utilized valuable tools you provided in the Q & A that introduced this course. Thank you again and again for always delivering high quality instruction with clarity.

Very good information

In the “Grants Research…Supercharged” training I learned to strategize and amplify my grant search, dramatically saving me time and making my efforts more efficient, but it didn’t stop there. She revealed the two best places to look for grants, and how to search for them with the greatest ease. Maryn shares her secret strategy on how to find the “sweet spot funders” for my project and organization! Maryn Boess of GrantsMagic U is a grant writing process champion who cares very much about our success. She is a Super Star on my grant writing success team. I highly recommend this training! Maryn Boess, YOU totally ROCK!!

GREAT course!

by Lauren Holland
The Grants Research, Supercharged training is a MUST for success in your grant seeking. Maryn introduces tips and tricks that reveal the secret to true grant seeking success. Not only does she familiarize you with the resources to find these funders, but she will show you how to save PLENTY of time in your grant search. This course will open the door to at least hundreds of funders you may have not considered in your previous searches. An A+ proposal is of no value without the proper, interested funder to read it. This course is crucial to your grant success!

Over her 25+-year career in the nonprofit world, Maryn has been an on-staff program developer and grantwriter; a independent grants consultant (winning more than $42 million for her clients over 10 years); a grants project manager; a grants trainer; a grants reviewer, author, speaker, mentor and coach; and - since 2006 - even a grantmaker.

This done-it-all background gives her the unique 3-D "insider's" perspective she brings to the practical and inspiring trainings on healthy, successful grantsmanship that she has been blessed to share with thousands of nonprofits of every size, nationally and internationally as well.

GrantsMagic U, launched in fall 2015, is the "virtual academy" she created to make her extensive portfolio of grantsmanship trainings available (and affordable!) for anyone, anytime, anywhere.

GrantsMagic U is an Approved Continuing Education Provider for both the Grant Professionals Certification (GPC) and Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) credentials.

Since 2006 Maryn has also been “in the grantmaker’s chair,” managing up to $2 million annually in grantmaking for K-12 education in the Southwest.

She considers herself a dual citizen in the grants world, and may be the only person currently holding membership in both GPA (Grant Professionals Association, for grantseekers) and GEO (Grantmakers for Effective Organizations, for grantmakers).

Every hour of GrantsMagic U training qualifies as 1 credit toward CFRE and GPC continuing-education and certification requirements.
